Caledonian Scotch Pine

A friend of a friend of the family who is no longer with us, spent many enjoyable years walking the the Angus Hills and glens, the Cairngorm region, and the North-West Highlands of Scotland.

On her travels she collected a vast array of fasinating pieces of wood that have been presereved in the peat bogs. Most, or perhaps all of it (there are over 200 pieces), will be the tree roots of the Scotch Pine tree of the ancient Caledonion forest. Very few trees remain of this ancient indigenous forestration, and much is now being done to preserve and encourage it's return. Ruth had two pieces carbon-dated and were estimated to be 4,000 years old!

Beach-life has been taking a few days holiday from its driftwood creations and is attempting to do such magnificent pieces of wood justice and to also thank Ruth for her years of effort. He's to you Ruth.
